What is FSS or Forex System Selector?

FSS is an automated, web-based trading platform from FXCM. This platform provides you a simple and fast way to create an automated portfolio of back tested forex trading systems. You can get to trading in 3 easy steps:

1. Check the available systems.
2. Select the systems that you like based on past performance or your search criteria.
3. Apply the systems to your portfolio, and view the performance.

Where do I get a demo account for the FSS platform?

US residents

AU/NZ residents

Where do I login to the FSS platform?

Since this is a web-based platform, please click here to login to the platform. Please select the appropriate FXCM entity to login to the platform:

US accounts

UK accounts

AU/NZ accounts

Once you click on the appropriate link, you will be re-directed to the FSS website. This is what you will see:



Enter your user name and password, making sure you have selected ‘Live’ or ‘Practice’ as appropriate. When finished, click on the ‘Login’ button at the bottom, and you will see the loading status bar, as indicated below:



When you login, you will see the disclaimer page. When you have finished reading, click the Accept button at the bottom.



If you are on a demo, you will be asked to change your password. Click ‘Set’ when finished

How do I learn to use the platform? (Strategies window)

There are a few screens that we will cover, and let’s get started with the strategies window. From this window, you can perform simple and custom searches of the systems available, as well as save and check systems on your watch list.



In the Smart Filter, you can find strategies thorough 3 basic inputs: Starting Balance, Trade Size (k), and Time Frame. When you have selected the desired inputs, click ‘Find’ at the bottom right. The strategies are displayed in this window. The top 5 strategies total pip return of the set Time Frame selected are displayed in the chart.



How do I perform a Custom Filter search?

You can easily filter between the many systems available, simply click on the Custom Filter button, and select the search parameters.



You can see there are a few inputs to select from already: Strategy name, Symbol, Pips and Max DD. You can absolutely select more parameters to search by simply by clicking on the Add criteria
button as indicated below:



What is the Watch List?

The Watch List is where you can save strategies for reference, to follow up on performance, and activate/deactivate as you wish.

Simply by clicking on the Star icon, you can add/remove a strategy from the Smart Filter or Custom Filter to the Watch List. On the Watch List you will see any strategies you have saved, and their performance listed above.



You can add strategies by clicking on the add button, or remove them from the Watch List by clicking on the star icon.

What else can be done from the strategies window? Can I export data?

Absolutely! You can export the data to excel for convenience and further analysis. You can do so from the Smart Filter, Custom Filter or Watch list. Just click on the buttons in the upper right corner of the window to do so.



The circled buttons are detailed below:

is for switching between Table, graph, or both displays.

Clicking on the blue ‘i’ button will bring up the information about the window you are on currently. You will see this is the Smart Filter information window.

How do I learn to use the platform? (Positions window)

There are a few screens that we will cover, and let’s get started with the Open Positions window. From here, you will see all of the currently open positions in your account. You will also have a display to show you the available margin remaining in your account, as indicated below:



This will list out each open position and all relevant information: ticket, Strategy (that opened that trade), Symbol, B/S (if it’s a buy or sell trade), Amount (k), Open Price, Pips, P/L, Stop, and Limit.

In the Orders window, any pending orders will be displayed here. Again, all information about each trade is visible here:



In the Closed Positions window, all of your closed trades will be displayed. The currently closed trades (those since 5pm ET today, or since 22 GMT) until now. You can select desired dates for displaying closed trades, as indicated below. You can organize by: strategy, symbol or date range.



Can I export data?

Absolutely! You can export the data to excel for convenience and further analysis. You can do so from the Open Positions, Orders and Closed Positions windows. Just click on the buttons in the upper right corner of the window to do so.

Portfolio Window

The Portfolio window indicates basic account information on the FSS platform. You will see your account number, balance, exposure ratio and exposure meter.



The exposure meter is the maximum exposure your account would have, if all strategies opened the maximum number of trades available. For example, if your balance is $10,000, and you are running only one strategy on USD/JPY, with a maximum of 2 positions of 10K size, the meter would read 1:2, because the maximum trades would total 20K exposure.

Rates Window

The Rates window displays current market rates, and is one of the places you can open or close manual positions.



Account Activities

The Account Activities window will show you every action that has happened on the account. You can search by action type, strategy and/or date range.



Can I export the portfolio data?

How do I select a system to run on my account?

All you need to do is click on the yellow Add button to add a strategy to your account, as indicated below:



When you do so, you will see the ‘Add Strategy’ window. From here, you can select the lot size you want the strategy to trade, and can pause a strategy.

Dealing Rates Window

The top of the platform displays a few pieces of information. First, you will see dealing rates that you can create manual trades from. You can click on the ‘Hide Rates’ in the upper right to hide the dealing rates. It is circled on the image below.



You will also see your account Balance, P/L ($), Equity, Used Mr, and Usbl Mr on your account:



Finally, you can manage various functions of your account by using these 3 buttons:



The Support button will allow you to email, call or chat with an FXCM representative, at the click of your mouse:



You can click on the Settings button to display the settings window:



When you do, you will see the settings tab, where you can change your email address, change your password, change your level of notification, and options:



Finally, you can log out of your account by clicking on:

How can I create my own system to trade automatically?

You would want to check out FXCM's Automated trading platform called Strategy Trader. There is a dedicated forum for coding in Strategy Trader that can assist you in developing your automated system. If you do not have coding experience and would like assistance in building your automated strategy, you can contact Programming Services at consulting@fxcm.com.
