There's an upgrade occurring the weekend of August 27th for the FX Trading Station II forex trading platform. When you login on Sunday August 27th, the trading platform will automatically update to the new version. Here's what is included in the update:
1. RSS News Window
A window is being added to the trading platform down at the bottom for News. The DailyFX Real Time News feed is already included for forex alerts and you can add any additional RSS feeds. For example, I added the Marketwatch Break News Bulletings and Real Time News updates to mine. See below:
2. Trailing Stops
Dynamic vs. Step: Traders will be able to choose between having a dynamic trailing stop or a step trailing stop. The dynamic trailing stop moves pip by pip whereas the step trailing stop lets you choose the minimum moves the market must make for the stop to trail.
FXCM US Trailing Stop: Traders with FXCM US (LLC) will be able to add trailing stops to their net positions.
3. Entry Order Time in Force
Entry orders will have the option to be either Good Till Cancelled (by default) or Good for Day. If time in force is set to "Day", the order will expire at 17:00 Eastern Time (New York).
4. Signal Notification via E-Mail:
Signals that you set in the Marketscope Charts will be able to alert you via e-mail, in addition to the usual sounds and message windows. You will be able to be notified via e-mail about signals, including technical indicators such as RSI levels or Moving Average crosses, Price levels, Pivot Points, as well as custom technical indicators and signals that you can program yourself or download from the Internet. I also noticed the inclusion of a order and trader alert so you can have an email sent to you when a specified order is executed.
5. Chart Templates:
You may have experienced the frustration of spending a lot of time setting up a chart exactly how you want it with all the technical indicators and then realize you can't copy the indicator setup onto another chart. We have added a chart template option which you can use to save the indicator layout and then copy it onto other charts. Makes setting up charts much easier and efficient.
6. Tick Volume
Tick volume indicator has been added to the indicator list.
7. Technical Indicators Customization:
More customization options have been added for the indicators such as the ability to increase line thickness. This has been a very popular request.
8. Save Zoom Level:
If you're zoomed into a chart and change the period or currency pair, the zoom level will continue to the next chart. The zoom will also be saved when you save the layout of the chart. Previously, the zoom level would default to 300 candles when you change currency pairs or time frames.
9. Empty (hollow) Bearish Candles:
You have the option to make the bearish candles empty or hollow as opposed to the current setup where the candle is always filled.
Those are the major feature updates coming out this weekend. As always, if you have any suggestions for improvements to the trading platform, please feel free to let us know. We typically have 2-3 updates for the FXTSII per year and try to implement the top requests.
One more thing to mention about this weekend's update, automated trading functionality is being added to the FX Trading Station II along with a sample strategy, basic moving average cross. Below is a screenshot of how you will access the strategies:
Once you apply the strategy, it will plot the trade to the chart along with details on whether the trade was created by the strategy or manual trading.
The programming language the strategy automation and custom indicators is LUA. The included strategy is basic and meant to give you an idea of how it works if you want to create a strategy for the FXTSII.
Is there is any documentation available anywhere on this exciting new functionality for LUA?
Jim
Hi Jim,
There are two sites for LUA documentation for Marketscope: Wiki.fxprogrammers.com and FxCodeBase . Most of the documentation relates to the indicators at this point, but we'll be adding more information. It's in its beginning stages at this point.
There is a minor known issue with tomorrow’s Trading Station release: in Windows 7, if you have multiple internet connections enabled (eg, one wireless and one LAN) it's possible that the Trading Station could take longer than usual to connect when logging in. The workaround is to disable one of the connections when logging in. This is an issue that will affect all applications running on Windows 7 in general, so it is not specific to the FX Trading Station II. We are working on a more sophisticated long term solution.
HOW TO: Email Alerts for the FX Trading Station II
Email alerts are being added to the FX Trading Station II in this weekends update. In order to have the email alert sent, you will first need to setup SMTP information specific to your email account. Below is a guide which Jeremy Gulickson of FXCM Client Services team has put together to help you:
To enable email notification you must configure two settings. Step 1 only needs to be done once.
Step 1. On TSII: System > Options > Marketscope > Strategies Options
There are 5 items which need to be completed. Below is a gmail account as an example.
Step 2. On Marketscope: Strategies > Add Strategy > Pick the strategy you desire
On the pop-up that appears, set "Send email" to Yes
This website has a fairly inclusive list of different email providers' smtp servers: Free SMTP Server List - SMTP Servers For Your ISP. If the website does not include your email provider, you should still be able to speak with your email provider to find this information.
OK i figured the question I had for the email notification stuff
I'm just wondering about the the dynamic trailing stop now. It doesn't appear to be changeable.
It just stays at 0.1 on my profile. Maybe it'll work when trading opens up.
But anyway thanks for the Update
I've been having to have a 2nd demo platform open lately to see volume.

Reason: answered my own question

Thank for your interest to the strategies development on Lua.
Surely, there is the complete user guide for Lua language and all the trading functions, trading tables and other features required to create the strategy.
Also, there is unique strategy debugger which allows to debug your strategy step-by-step on every simulated tick and see the complete simulation of the FXCM trade orders and other object (such as trades, summaries) behavior.
Unfortunately, there is no step-by-step articles on how to create a strategy yet, like we have for the indicators. We will prepare it shortly.
Please find below a useful collection of the links on how to start develop in Lua for the Trading Station application: How to start
I am experiencing problems as well. I couldn t compete the update installation. I got an error message and Log files included here. Afterward I managed to start the station changing the version number in the Registry. Obviously, the new features are not available.

Anyone can help me out?
Just in case anyone was interested. I solved the problem reinstalling the TS on a secondary partition.
