Hot Trade 06/10/09

I was excited to talk about this trade today because I don't have many opportunities to discuss some of the emerging market currencies. The focus today is on a short USDTRY trade placed back in April, when the pair tested the 38.2% fib of 1.8246-1.5574 at 1.6588, and is still holding on.

King of the Micro

Thanks for answering the question. I'm a little confused by this statement on that page:

"The top 10 traders for the June 17, 2009 trading day are below*. These results are not month-to-date. They are only for the 24 hour trading day of June 8."

Are they the June leaders or June 8th leaders or June 17th leaders?

That was just a typo S.Jibreel, those are the leaders for June 17. Sorry for the confusion.

And who says you cannot make some serious money in the Forex market?
You can definitely make some serious money in the forex market, but according to my calculations you would need slightly more than 16 standard ($100,000) lots to make a quarter of a $million on a 1.3000 to 1.1000 move.

P.S. ImportedBP, are you being paid for the advertisement in your signature? Just wondering why you are hawking a website.

If you think linearly yes, but the real pros pyramid (add to) their positions when the market is strongly moving in their favor, and quickly move their stop to break-even, so they can play with the "house's money" so to speak.

A move of that magnitude (2000 pips on that short USD/CAD) can easily exceed the 1 million dollars mark profit, starting with only 10 standard lots.

In fact it only takes one or two big moves like that and the forex trader is set for life, assuming he has the guts to pyramid his profits to the max!

Hi Xiao,

You simply need to have at least $500 in your live Micro account at the beginning of the month and you are automatically entered. Then you must make at least 10 trades during the month to qualify. Of course the $500 is not a fee and is never debited from your micro account.

Hello again Xiao (are you trading from China ? Just curious),

It's very simple, if you have at least $500 in your micro FXCM account at the beginning of the month, then you can automatically participate in the contest.

Now if you lose 100 pips for example, that money will be debited from your account of course. The important thing to remember is that the $500 is not a fee, in other words you do not have to pay ANYTHING to qualify, as long as you have $500 minimun in your micro FXCM account and you make at least 10 trades during the month.

PS: Have you seen the movie "Rogue Trader", it's about this futures trader Nick leeson (Ewan McGregor) who caused the spectacular collapse of Barings Bank, the United Kingdom's oldest investment bank, in Singapore, while betting against the Nikkei futures? Fantastic movie, a must see.

PPS: Could you please explain why the ladies in this forex forum are so pretty, including Helene Z and you, not to mention our gorgeous friend Belkas? Just kidding, you don't have to answer that

Hello Xiao,

If you want to know more about Candlestick trading,I suggest you begin with "Candlestick Charting For Dummies" by Russell Rhoads, excellent book.

Then read the fantastic "Candlestick and Pivot Point Trading Triggers" written by the master of candlesticks, John L. Person himself. This book will show you how to use pivot points and candlesticks to create a great trading system. Some of the systems he describes in this book have been backtested with OmegaTrade Station and produce over 100 pips a month profit.

Take care.
