    Using Strategy Backtester

I need a little assistance with using the backtester. There may already be some content on this but just need a point in the right direction.

I am setting up a backtesting strategy using slow stochastic which I run on the last six months of data on AUD\USD. When finished it shows all the alerts taken at the correct points but does not show any trades being taken. Ideally I would like to see how the 50K would have performed using this strategy.

Am I missing something here? thanks in advance.

Hello Dividends, and thank you for your post! On behalf of myself and everyone here at FXCM, welcome to the forum community!

Where can I learn more about how to back test strategies on the Trading Station platform?

Please click here (Trading Station Back Testing and Optimization FAQ) for our Trading Station Back Testing and Optimization FAQ on the forum. There you will find the answers to all of your back testing questions and more!

When you are back testing your Strategy make sure that it is a "Strategy" and not an "Alert". The Trading Station is not able to back test "Alerts" because they do not have the capability to place trades for you. You can change the lot size for your back test in the "Amount in Lots" section of the "Strategy Parameters" window.

Once complete, your backtest will display key strategy performance metrics including an equity line, statistics, and history. Buy and sell signals will be displayed as small red and green arrows on the chart.

If you have other Trading Station questions, please post your question on this thread and we will reply with an answer!

Thank you again for your post Dividends! Please feel free to post with additional questions or contact me directly at julius@fxcm.com

Thanks Julius! You're exactly right. I had selected an alert from the backtest strategy menu. I did not get the option for trading parameters. I appreciate your help.
